The Back Foot
Thought I had to fend for myself
Hide my dust jacket so my title's
a little harder to tell
'cos people think they already know
every scene of every story told
but maybe we're quick to pick up
all each other's tricks now
It takes two for every time to
hit like bricks now
We could get it right
Gimme something to write
I just gotta appreciate
when God gives out gifts
I'm not talking about you
but the kind of thing that
really sticks to the ribs
I might be a mongrel
Please educate me on
what mercy is
Fending for myself only
gets me good riddance
Too easy to find yourself
broken-spirited on the back foot
Too easy to misalign yourself
Suddenly you're banging
heads with the bad hoods
but parties with people
never fail to go pear shaped
so when you party you don't
even invite anyone these days
